Claude was down – here's everything we know

Claude identified an issue and rolled out a fix

If you're having issues getting Claude to respond to queries on desktop or mobile, it's not just you.

I've been trying to chat with Anthropic's popular AI assistant for a bit this morning, and am seeing the orange sun icon – aka Claude's thinking sign – or being presented with a "This isn't working right now. You can try again later."

It does seem to be intermittent at times, eventually answering a query, but it's enough of an issue that Anthropic has confirmed 'Elevated errors on Claude.ai' currently. Reports on Down Detector Claude have shot up a bit, sitting at over 2,900 as of 11:32 AM ET.

So, to track what's going on with Claude right now and hopefully a speedy recovery back to normal, TechRadar is spinning up a live blog to cover it all.

Claude's confirmed an issue

Now, shortly after we encountered issues using Claude and a slew of reports on Down Detector, Anthropic confirmed an 'elevated errors' issue for Claude on its status page.

The full update reads as: "We have identified an issue resulting in elevated errors on Claude.ai, including desktop and mobile. Users may experience errors when attempting to login, engaging with voice mode, or completing chats with Claude. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible."

The issues Anthropic confirmed for Claude are trying to sign in, using voice mode, and using chat. The latter is the one I've encountered, as well as a colleague at TechRadar and a friend who flagged it to me.

Reports are dropping on Down Detector

While Anthropic has not yet said anything beyond investigating the issue, reports on Down Detector are starting to drop. Let us know if Claude is responding in the comments below.

Some good news, Anthropic updated Claude's status page at 12:17 PM ET to say: "Update - We are continuing to work on a fix for this issue."

That's excellent and likely means that the elevated errors causing sign-in issues, as well as voice and chat slowdowns with Claude, should be fixed in the near future.

Claude says a fix has been applied

As of 12:44 PM ET, Claude says a fix has been sorted and applied, which should mean the service continues to recover. Meaning that if you're still having issues signing in or talking with Claude, it should return to normal operation soon.

The update reads, "Monitoring - We have applied a fix, and are seeing success rates recover across affected services. We are continuing to monitor to ensure there is no recurrence of issues."

My colleague Lance is reporting that Claude is again operational, and mine – albeit taking a longer beat – is returning with answers.
