Met Eireann predicts heavy rain will hit parts of the country this week - as one weather forecaster has given an update on the aftermath of Hurricane Kirk.

A number of weather warnings were issued over the weekend as heavy rain affected certain counties, amid reports that Ireland could be hit by the tail end of a hurricane this week.

According to Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather, it currently looks like Ireland shouldn't be too impacted by the remnants of this storm.

"#Kirk staying well South of us but likely to hit Portugal, Spain and France with one model the ARPEGE model showing him intensifying and hitting France hard Wednesday night. Thankful we are dodging this one," he posted on X on Sunday evening.

We are still expected to get showers of heavy rain throughout the week, but the good news is that there will be some sunny spells too.
