The Chase's Mark Labbett reveals he suffered 'breakdown' before filming scenes for ITV show

Mark Labbett, also known as "The Beast" from ITV's The Chase, has opened up about having a breakdown prior to filming an episode of the hit quiz show.

Since launching in 2009, The Chase has become a beloved fixture on British TV. Presented by Bradley Walsh, it features a team of four contestants who compete against a professional quizzer, dubbed the "Chaser".

Mark, who was born and raised in Tiverton, shares the limelight with fellow chasers Anne Hegerty, Darragh Ennis, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, and Jenny Ryan. It was reported that Mark had faced difficulties before facing a "star" team for a particular episode.

Mark admitted he did acknowledge the triumphant team but claims this gesture didn't make the final cut, reports the Daily Record. His words were: "I still applauded and congratulated the team but it was edited out :(."

Co-chaser Paul Sinha came to his defence, commenting: "It's easily lost we're not robots, we're human beings trying our best. Whatever you see on screen is a snapshot of us at an unspecified moment sometime in the last 18 months."

Paul added: "We could have been under stress for any number of reasons, much of [which] may be long forgotten."

In light of Mark's revelation, fans have shown a wave of support, with one viewer mentioning: "It's the most frustrated I have seen you! On the bright side my wife and I were laughing at how grumpy you looked but in a nice way if that's possible. All part of the twists and turns that great show provides."

Another viewer chimed in: "Out of curiosity, how long ago was it filmed ? ? You could tell halfway through with the tone in your voice you knew that you had been beaten."

"Anyone can have a bad day," one commented.

"Sorry to hear that, though was clear you weren't yourself. Hope you're back to your brilliant bullying best soon. You'll always be the chaser we fear the most (well, maybe second to @anne_hegerty lol)," another fan penned.
