BBC's Kate Humble's brutally honest reason for never becoming a mum

The former Springwatch presenter has been open about her decision not to have children and said her mind has been made up on motherhood since she was just a teenager

BBC star Kate Humble has candidly shared the reasons behind her decision not to have children with her husband Ludo Graham.

Gaining recognition through her hosting of wildlife programmes on the BBC. Kate and Ludo tied the knot back in 1992 after having known each other since their youth.

Despite building a successful career, Kate has faced scrutiny for her apparent disinterest in motherhood. She has frequently discussed her teenage realization that she lacked what she terms as the "lacked the maternal gene".

Speaking to Woman's Weekly magazine, the former-Springwatch host explained on of the key reasons behind her decision. She said: "I'd probably have been a terrible parent, but I guess I'm doing my bit for kids in my way."

She further reflected: "Not everyone is set up to be a parent or wants to be a parent, but it doesn't mean that you can't and don't want to have a fundamental effect on children."

Beyond the television world, Kate runs the agricultural enterprise Humble by Nature in Monmouthshire, Wales, where she encountered a woman with two children seeking refuge from an abusive household. Kate emphasised the lasting connection they maintain, noting: "We're still in touch, and they have been back."

Now 55, Kate has previously disclosed on ITV's Lorraine that many women have expressed solidarity with her regarding her choice to live without children, underscoring her certainty by declaring: "I knew very early on that I didn't want children, so I thought, I'm just going to say it."

Kate Humble has candidly expressed her views on not having children: "I don't think it's anybody's business but I think it's just easier if I just come out and say, 'I don't want them, I've never wanted them'. I know it sounds dreadful but that's just how I feel."

She also acknowledged the support she received, "But it was amazing, the reaction, [there were] so many women via social media and in the papers saying 'thanks for voicing what we feel', because so many people don't want kids."

Kate feels fortunate that her husband shares her sentiments regarding starting a family. Recognised widely for co-presenting Animal Park with Ben Fogle since the 1990s, Humble is set to return to the programme for a special Christmas edition from Longleat, Wiltshire.
