Telephone pole collapsing under weight of snow amid chaos on Exeter roads

by · DevonLive

A telephone pole in Exeter has started to collapse under the weight of the snow that has fallen this morning, Thursday, November 21. Heavy flurries have fallen across the city and wider counter area, resulting in crashes, train cancellations and school closures.

Pictures sent to Devon Live show the Open Reach telegraph pole collapsing on Gordon Road. A silver Volvo car can been seen parked underneath it.

It comes as the snow continues to wreak havoc across Exeter. The A30 is currently impassable and motorists have been urged to avoid driving unless it's absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, all trains between Exeter Central and Okehampton have been cancelled due to snow. No services are operating between Exeter Central and Barnstaple either due to a points failure.

There have also been cancellations on the line between Exeter St Davids and Axminster because of the snowfall. The replacement bus is also unable to run due to the treacherous weather conditions.

Elsewhere, a tree fell on East Wonford Hill, the main route into Heavitree, earlier this morning. All bus services have also been cancelled in the city centre area.
