Exeter nightclub replaces door staff to address 'inaccurate' reputation

by · DevonLive

An Exeter nightclub has replaced its door staff after it says rumours began circulating that the venue wasn't inclusive. The club has previously described itself as "Exeter's main LGBT club".

The management team at The Vaults on Gandy Street has issued a statement saying they want to clarify "who we are as a venue". They claim that "views and opinions" about the place have been circulating recently but say these are not accurate.

It appears the nightclub may have been the subject of suggestions that it does not welcome people of all identities as the statement goes on to insist that Vaults is "an inclusive nightclub". The management team says people of all ethnicities, genders, sexualities and professions are welcome.

The club has now brought in a new security team which it says are "specifically trained" to ensure the place is welcoming to all. DevonLive has approached The Vaults for additional clarification on what prompted the statement.

The message, which was posted to Vaults' Instagram and Facebook pages on October 17, said: "To all who know of Vaults, As you know we are a nightclub in the heart of the city centre in Exeter. We are putting this message out to try and communicate who we are as a venue. There are many different views and opinions we have heard about Vaults however none of these are accurate or align with our values.

"At Vaults we pride ourselves on being an inclusive nightclub. This means we welcome ALL. We welcome all ethnicity groups. We welcome all genders. We welcome all sexualities. We welcome all professions. We welcome all students. We welcome everyone.

"We also would like to confirm that we have a new security team who have been specifically trained to uphold these values. We want everyone to have a fun and safe night at our venue.
