Donkey Sanctuary gears up for magical winter events
by Lewis Clarke · DevonLiveWith winter just around the corner, The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is gearing up to make the season sparkle.
Set in the heart of the East Devon countryside, there are lots of resident donkeys to meet, play areas, engaging exhibits and scenic walks. The sanctuary is free to visit and park, and it’s dog friendly too.
The sanctuary’s miniature donkeys, who have recently moved into their super new home - Dawn Barn, take centre stage for the Mini Winter Wonderland Trail.
By following their trail sheet, visitors can explore the sanctuary in the crisp winter air to learn all about the miniature herd, and discover how grooms ensure all the resident donkeys are cared for when the temperatures drop and the weather changes. Trail sheets cost £5 each and include a prize on completion.
When it’s time to warm up, the award-winning onsite restaurant ‘The Kitchen’ is the perfect place to take sanctuary alongside views of the surrounding countryside, while the Gift Shop provides the perfect excuse to do some seasonal shopping, Shoppers can be safe in the knowledge that every penny of profit helps The Donkey Sanctuary reach more donkeys in need.
The Donkey Sanctuary is open from 9am to 4pm every day. On Christmas Day, only the car park and walkways are open for visitors. For more information visit https://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/visit-us/sidmouth
