By utilising the residual coffee grounds from your morning brew and scattering them in pest-prone areas of your garden, you can aid in eradicating pests. Insects detest the aroma and will consequently steer clear.

You can also apply this method indoors, targeting corners and crevices where insects frequently emerge. This approach won't cost you a penny as you'd already be consuming the coffee, and it's more eco-friendly due to the recycling aspect, reports Leicestershire Live.

If ants are a problem in your home, white vinegar could be an effective deterrent. By combining white vinegar, water and peppermint oil, and spraying the concoction on trails where you've spotted ants, you'll obliterate the scent trail ants leave for their comrades.

This should eventually prevent their return.

If spiders send shivers down your spine, you're familiar with the dread of spotting one darting across the floor or, even worse, lurking in a corner above your bed. If spiders are an issue in your home, try slicing an onion and placing it in a bowl of water in the area where you most frequently encounter spiders - the odour should repel them.

For plant pests, a solution of dish soap and water can be sprayed on the leaves to eliminate aphids, mealybugs and beetles.

Lastly, if your cherished pets are introducing fleas into your home and you're reluctant to use a chemical flea bomb, salt is a viable alternative. Scatter salt on your carpet or furniture where you've spotted fleas or their eggs and leave it for 24 hours.

After this period, vacuum up the salt and the fleas along with their eggs should have dehydrated and perished.
