Dog breed is 'so chaotic' it should 'come with a warning' say pet fans

A pet enthusiast has issued a playful warning that one popular dog breed is so 'chaotic' it should come with its own cautionary advice.

Finding the ideal four-legged friend is a daunting task. Whether it's 'drama queen' huskies, adorable labradoodles, tiny chihuahuas, or larger breeds such as German Shepherds, each type of pooch comes with its unique set of advantages and drawbacks.

But for those wondering whether to welcome a Bernese Mountain Dog into their home, they might want to reconsider, according to one Instagram user. The account @doglifetoday1 jokingly described the dogs as "a breed so clumsy and chaotic they should come with a warning label."

The accompanying video remarked: "These lovable giants roam the earth like overgrown toddlers," and highlighted several challenges these dogs can present. "First off, let's talk about their sheer size. They're like an express train made of fur, lumbering through life with the grace of a hippo on roller skates."

According to the American Kennel Club, male Bernese Mountain Dogs can stand up to 27.5 inches (70cm) at the shoulder, while females can reach 26 inches (66cm), and they may weigh as much as 8.2 stone (52kg).

The video further commented on the dogs' boundless zest for life, "rivalled only by a toddler with a sugar rush." Additionally, the Instagram post cautioned prospective owners about the extensive grooming required due to the Bernese Mountain Dogs' relentless shedding.

"They don't just shed, they [...] disperse fur like a confetti cannon at a bad wedding."

While the video jokingly claimed that Bernese Mountain dogs have the brainpower of a "bag of rocks", in reality, these canines are known to be quite clever and can be easily trained with the right approach. Due to their intelligent nature, they require plenty of mental stimulation to prevent boredom and potential mischief.

These dogs also tend to be quite sensitive, often responding better to positive encouragement rather than negative feedback. The tender-hearted traits of the Bernese Mountain dog have won over many fans, with one enthusiast sharing: "Absolutely, but my Bernese is absolutely the loveliest family member. Honestly, Bernese are so incredibly loyal, sweet, caring.."

Nonetheless, there's a poignant aspect future owners must consider. "Adorable but will break your heart," commented an individual, highlighting the breed's relatively short lifespan of seven to 10 yearsbelow the general canine average of 10-13 yearsand proneness to unusual health issues.
