People Are Sharing The Rich-Person Behaviours That Made Them Feel Like They Were Living In A Different Stratosphere
by Benjamin Dzialdowski · BuzzFeedRecently, Wonderful-Economy762 asked r/Productivitycafe, "What is a 'rich person' behaviour you witnessed that made you realise they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us?" So we thought we'd share some of the top responses.
1. "They treat time like it’s more valuable than money, so they pay to avoid small inconveniences. They don’t stress over prices, they just pick what they want. And they take big risks because failure won’t ruin them, they can just try again."
2. "Mid-nineties in high school, new kid in school showed up like he was in a prep school: tie, sweater, khakis."
"Made friends with him since we shared some classes. Found that his parents had gone through a nasty divorce and he was living with his mom and grandparents in a very different situation than he was used to. Private schools and county clubs no more.
I brought him home after school and we stopped at McDonald's for a couple of cheeseburgers because I was going to work. He was less than impressed by the quality and when we left he dumped his trash, tray and all, in the garbage. I explained to him that the trays get reused and he looked at me and asked, why?
After that, whenever we hung out it turned into a game of ‘taking my rich friend to do poor people stuff’ and ‘taking my poor friend to do rich people stuff’. He took me golfing, I took him fishing. He was a good guy, just completely out of his element. Hope he’s doing well today."
3. "I was planning a trip with my friends and his first suggestion was a private jet so we can leave when we want. Split it at $10k a person for a weekend trip."
4. "Had a buddy in college whose BMW 5 Series died on him while it was parked at a ski resort. His dad sent someone to drop off the ‘back-up car’ so he’d have something to drive. It was an S-Class Mercedes. This was 2006–2007ish. I was driving a 1993 pickup truck."
5. "Had a client once who called our emergency IT line because their home network was ‘slow’."
"Turned out they wanted us to fly out the same day to optimise their smart mansion setup because they were having guests over that weekend. When I mentioned the cost would be around $3k for emergency service, they just said ‘whatever, just fix it before dinner’. Meanwhile, I'm over here using the same ethernet cable I bought in 2019 and praying my router doesn't die because I can't afford to replace it this month."
6. "When I first went down to college and thought to myself, ‘some of my peers'’ parents own some pretty nice vehicles.’ Then I found out those cars belonged to the students themselves."
7. "Ordering IV infusions like normal people get coffee. Most of the working class can't afford healthcare without going in the red, if at all."
8. "I work with doctors. One was complaining to me that we weren’t paying them enough on an all-expenses-paid trip. One day of their pay would cover my rent for the month."
9. "Rich guy dropped a $100 chip at the craps table. I picked it up off the floor and tried to return it, but he just said ‘thanks but keep it, it’s just $100.’ I was just out of college and couldn’t understand how someone would simply not care about $100."
10. "Invited to an Xmas party by a Senior VP. They had three different fully decorated Christmas trees around their house in various areas of the house."
11. "Sitting in a 4-star restaurant I can barely afford next to a family of five with three kids, looking as if they're ‘just grabbing a quick bite with the fam after work’."
12. "It was a while ago, but a lad I went to high school with crashed five separate $100k cars and had his buddy crash one as well. Shiny new one the next day every time. Comes from the richest family in the city I grew up in."
13. "I know a rich guy who hires bands to play on an island he lives on. I played in one of those bands. It's very hot and getting there is pretty difficult."
"Anyway, my band traveled there, did a rehearsal in the blazing sun. We were all pretty beat and just wanted to rest up a little before the show that night. This guy insisted we all travel to his $30 million mansion so he could show us his fucking wine cellar. We are all working musicians. None of us drink fucking $500 bottles of wine nor do we care. He paid shit too."
14. "Leaving all the furniture behind when they sold their house, planning to just buy everything new for their new home."
15. "A few years ago I was telling my boss how I need to work on my car once again, and he responded by saying, ‘Again? Why don’t you just buy a new one?’ Lol"
16. "I worked for an ultra-luxury car dealership for many years."
"One guy was ordering a car and said, ‘Get me a lease on a (lower brand SUV), I need a car for the nanny. She's taking the kids to school in a Honda Pilot right now.’ Said it like he was adding pepperoni to a pizza, but it was like $2,100 per month. People would special order custom cars that cost more than two or three houses and keep them for less than a year."
17. "An ex-girlfriend buying a $30k diamond when we were grocery shopping."
