In recent years, Chris Pratt has been challenged over his apparent political leanings and devout Christian beliefs.

For a full breakdown of the actor’s religious controversies, you can click here, but to quickly summarise: Chris has been linked to the anti-LGBT Hillsong Church; has claimed that hunting animals made him feel closer to God; and has proudly promoted Hallow, a Catholic prayer app backed by JD Vance that seemingly has conservative leanings.

With this in mind, several internet users found themselves reexamining a 2011 tweet from Chris about “crooked” cops that resurfaced on Reddit this week.

The tweet read, “If I wasn't an actor I'd be a cop. Probably crooked. On the payroll. Turn a blind eye to corruption. Shoot a dude. Plant a gun. The usual.”

Several people remain convinced that Chris was making an obvious joke, seemingly alluding to his Parks and Recreation alter-ego Burt Macklin, an over-the-top FBI agent.

“This is 2011- it’s clearly a Burt Macklin joke tweet,” one Reddit user said. “It's Parks & Rec era Chris Pratt, I could see Andy saying this line,” someone echoed.

“It was funny when 2011 Chris Pratt tweeted it,” one user said. “To be fair this reads as a joke poking fun at police. Like… this was 15 years ago so I genuinely believe at that point he was making a joke about cops,” another person suggested.

“I don't really care for Chris Pratt outside of Parks and the Guardians movies, but we gotta be fair. He was making a joke here,” one more person agreed.

However, others couldn’t help but view the post in a new light, given the aforementioned divisive remarks Chris has made in the years since the tweet was shared. “Now see...if it was someone else's account I would be inclined to view this as a joke..but this man???? I will automatically assume the worst idk,” one user said. “In isolation, this is kinda funny, like you could be an alright person and tweet this and it'd be funny. But it is Chris Pratt so it's not funny I supposed,” someone agreed.

“This would be funny if it hadn't been for his behavior over the last 15 years,” another person wrote, while someone else said, “If Mark Ruffalo was tweeting this it'd be a joke. Since Christ Pratt tweeted it, it feels aspirational.”

Meanwhile, some people felt that Chris’s tweet had aged particularly poorly given that in 2021, his older brother, Solano County Sheriff's Sergeant Daniel “Cully” Pratt, was accused of showing support for a right-wing extremist group.

According to an investigation by Open Vallejo, Daniel posted a wooden carving on social media that referenced the Three Percenters, an American anti-government militant group whose name purportedly stems from the claim that only 3% of American colonists fought against the British in the Revolutionary War.

Solano County Sheriff Thomas Ferrara defended his employees, including Daniel, at the time that the report was published. “I want to be clear – the employees targeted in this article all serve this agency and this community with passion and dedication. I am not aware of one instance where any of these employees acted in a manner that was portrayed in this article...Our office denounces any extremist organization. And if there is ever a time when a member of our office is displaying support to overthrow the government, it will be dealt with swiftly,” he said in part to CBS.
