ASOS Users Are Freaking Out Over A ‘Hacker’ Notification, But They’re Already Making Requests: “Can They Reset Our Return Rate Percentages Please”
by Becca Monaghan · BuzzFeedASOS app users have been sent into a frenzy after receiving a very alarming push notification claiming the fashion retailer had been hacked.
The 6 October message appeared to suggest that the company’s data had been compromised, leaving people wondering whether they were looking at a genuine cyberattack or some very elaborate promotional campaign.
“Dear Asos DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance,” the notification read. “Engage with us, or we will leak it.”
For context, DPO is short for data protection officer, while Snowflake is a cloud-based data platform used by companies to store and analyse data.
The notification also directed users to a Telegram chat via a link.
BuzzFeed reached out to ASOS for comment, but the company was not immediately available to respond.
While it remains unclear at the time of writing what is behind the message or whether any ASOS data has actually been compromised, the notification predictably sent the internet into overdrive.
Some people even had their priorities in order, calling on the supposed hackers to use their access for good – namely, sending out the items sitting in their ASOS favourites and getting rid of the return charges the retailer introduced in 2024.
