Dyson Just Dropped A $500 Toothbrush With A Built-In Camera And Jet, And People Have Thoughts
by Becca Monaghan · BuzzFeedWould you splash out $500 on a toothbrush? That's the question on everyone's lips right now, as Dyson dropped a state-of-the-art toothbrush packed with surprise tech, from a built-in camera to a jet designed to target those hard-to-reach gaps between your teeth.
That's right, James Dyson unveiled the new CameraJet in Paris on Tuesday (1 September), following six years of research, development, and engineering.
And this is where things get very Dyson...
Tucked into the brush is a tiny 100,000-pixel macro camera, which basically gives it eyes while you clean your teeth. It captures 28 images every second, using machine learning to work out where the gaps between your teeth are in real time. Dyson says the technology can spot a gap in just 100 milliseconds, after being trained on 470,000 dental images collected during development.
The camera isn't just there for a slightly unsettling close-up of your teeth. Once it spots a gap, the CameraJet automatically sends a burst of mouthrinse straight into it, meaning the toothbrush can tackle those awkward in-between spaces as you brush.
The jet itself is said to have been designed to spray in a wider, cone-shaped pattern rather than the thin stream you'd typically get from a water flosser, so it can cover more ground without needing as much pressure.
It didn’t take long for people to chime in with their takes, and despite the hefty price tag, people are seemingly on board: "The type of innovation that can happen when the founder owns 100% of the business and answers to no one."
