“One Of Them Accidentally Blew His Leg Off With A Shotgun” –16 People Reveal What Happened To Their Childhood Bully
by Benjamin Dzialdowski · BuzzFeedRecently, CynthiaMartgol asked r/AskReddit, "How did your high school bully turn out in adulthood?" So we thought we'd share some of the top responses.
1. "He sent me a Facebook message apologising for how he treated me in elementary and middle school. Pretty dope move. I wish him well."
2. "The last bully I had was in junior high, and he is a loser of hilarious proportions. His FB page is the saddest list of 'accomplishments' possible. Wife left him, kids ignored him, on welfare, but he got that new chrome pipe for his Harley. You go, loser."
3. "Became a local rap star, was opening for big-name stars coming to the state fairs/doing concerts in the area, then disappeared off the face of the earth, and no one I know who knows him knows what happened."
4. Went to a 20 year school reunion. One of my bullies was there, and tried to talk to me, and I blanked him for the most part."
"Two days later he sent me a friend request on FB. I ummed and aaaah about it, and then accepted it, and sent him a message saying 'Hey, school sucked. Your bullying made it difficult, and was one of the reasons I changed schools'.
He sent me a two page apology, saying that he's really sincerely sorry about it, he was getting bullied by his brothers, and thought punching down would make him feel better, but that that is no excuse, and he's felt bad about it ever since... and that he hoped I was doing well now.
He'd had a toddler, just like I had, and we met up a couple of times for our kids to play together. He was pretty fucked up, clearly, but I genuinely appreciated him saying what he said. I actually felt a weight lifted, and it made up for the other bullies I had as well."
5. "He’s doing really well. He happened to come into my work one day and we hadn’t seen each other in 25 years."
"He asked if I remembered him and I told him, ‘How could I possibly forget him because he made my life a living hell for four years?’ He got really sheepish and said, ‘Yeah, I know. I was going through a lot of shit at home and taking it out on everyone else.’
He asked when my break was and if we could grab a coffee and talk so he could apologise properly, and I agreed. We talked, he apologised sincerely and he told me what was happening at home back then…it was horrific and I cried, but then it was like a weight lifted off the both of us. He’s got a loving wife who helped pull him out of his bad living situation and they have two beautiful kids. He owns his own business. He goes to therapy. I’m genuinely happy that he was able to turn it all around."
6. "He's a she now. Ironic, because she used to bully me for being feminine."
7. "One of them accidentally blew his leg off with a shotgun. It changed his whole mindset and he devoted himself to helping people and religion."
8. "I was the wimpy guy who was bullied by both guys and girls. Most of the guys are the typical small town losers who had two or three kids by their early 20s and are working minimum wage jobs, and a couple joined the military. Several of the girls went on to drop out of college, do Onlyfans, do drugs, get sober, and become Christian Republicans. I'm not even generalising. I graduated in 2018 and know four or five girls that went that exact path."
9. "They are mostly still bullies, driving big trucks, protesting covid vaccine mandates and trying to vote for Trump… from Canada."
10. "One joined the military, seems like a decent human. One robbed a pizza delivery man and went to jail."
11. "He’s a rich, very handsome investment banker, fml."
12. "Not high school but 8th grade."
"I hadn’t seen him since we finished middle school in 2004, but then my best friend sent me an article from a local news station about a year and a half ago saying that he was going to be on Wheel of Fortune that night.
He won a decent amount of money, and I posted on Twitter about it, recalling a story of how, the last time I saw him, he stomped on my foot because I was wearing flip flops so hard that my big toenail eventually fell off. A couple days later, he starts replying to a bunch of my tweets accusing me of lying about it, calling me 'gay' and 'a loser', even after I stopped responding. So yeah, he’s grown up a ton since then...'"
13. "Looked them up for this thread. Went into sales then back to the high school we went to and became the football coach."
"It was like some sort of weird 'through the looking glass' Al Bundy. Literally named his kid after himself and sent him to the same high school. Never left where he grew up, apparently surviving on their high school glory days. I feel both happy and (only slightly) sad seeing that. I'm a bad person though."
14. "Bought me a couple beers and apologised for everything through tears. I was nasty to him back then too, turns out we were going through similar teenage trials. It felt nice to bury that hatchet since we have a lot of mutual friends. We are all good now and I consider him a friend."
15. "She’s in local politics in our home state. It’s been satisfying to read on Reddit about her being hated for being shady."
16. "She's currently in jail for disobeying a restraining order, not the one I got against her, a different one!"
