by Aastha Pandey-Kanaan · CityNewsAfter a recent robbery in Prince George, Mounties are asking the public to be vigilant on the streets.
The Prince George RCMP says on Sunday, Nov. 3 just before 12:30 a.m. a man was robbed in the area of Ferry Avenue and Westwood Drive.
They say the victim was approached by another man and a woman who demanded his wallet and backpack. The male suspect showed a knife when they approached the victim, who complied and handed over his backpack.
RCMP says officers surrounded the area but they were not able to locate the suspects.
The male suspect is described as someone between 16 to 20 years old, and the female suspect is described as someone between 18 to 20 years old.
Mounties say no injuries occurred during this incident.
RCMP are advising people to walk with a friend whenever they can, and to be prepared for anything risky when walking alone, and are referring the public to their “Be street smart” safety tips page for ways to keep safe.
RCMP suggests you do the following:
- Keep your head up, stay alert, be aware of your surroundings and keep a safe distance from strangers and cars that approach you;
- Plan your route when walking, jogging or biking alone. Vary your route, walk near a curb and away from alleys and doorways, and only cross on designated intersections;
- Don’t display cash, conceal money and important documents, always carry some form of ID, and make sure bags are not overloaded;
- Don’t ride and play on your mobile phone when on anything with wheels, and keep an eye on your device’s battery;
- When travelling at night, wear reflective gear and if travelling in transit always sit near the bus driver and ask if you can be let off closer to your destination;
- When travelling alone in your car, always lock all the doors and keep windows up. RCMP says most car-jackings happen when stopped at an intersection.
