Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened to positive reviews worldwide. MCU fans are enjoying it as they witness their favourite superhero, portrayed by Tom Holland, facing another threat while trying to reunite with those who forgot him after the spell by 'Stephen Strange' erased his memories from everyone’s minds.
MCU has continued its trend of adding a post-credit scene, which will keep fans guessing what might happen next. While the ending says that Spider-Man will return, it has raised a few questions about the future of Tom Holland in the MCU.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day post-credit hints at multiple possibilities
The post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Brand New Day introduces the audience to 'Ned’s' Spidey Tracker app. But instead of tracking 'Spider-Man' in New York, the app shows his signal coming from somewhere in space.
Marvel has not explained what that signal actually means. Because of that, fans online have been going back and forth about it. Some think 'Peter Parker' could be heading to space, others think it’s a different universe, and some believe it’s setting up a bigger multiverse story.
Part of why people are talking about it so much is that Tom Holland’s appearance is not yet confirmed in the upcoming projects of the MCU, including Avengers: Doomsday. It feels more like Marvel is keeping his next appearance under wraps. The space reference has still made people wonder if it connects to the upcoming Avengers movies.
Right now, Marvel hasn’t said anything officially, so everything out there is just fan theory, not fact. The tracker app probably won’t be the thing that tells the audience about who is appearing in Doomsday. Still, it could mean 'Peter’s' next solo movie takes him off to space.
The space adventure is not new for 'Spider-Man' in the comics. A few years back, he even joined a version of the Fantastic Four called the Future Foundation and went into space. In October 2025, the main Amazing Spider-Man comic also ran two stories at once. One of them happened on Earth, followed by another in space.
On Earth, 'Harry Osborn' was revealed to be 'Spider-Man.' But this cannot be expected in the MCU. 'Peter Parker' was in space, wearing a new suit and hanging out with symbiotes and 'Rocket Raccoon' before coming back to Earth. If Sony wants to go bigger with the next movie, something like the events in the comics might happen.
Tom Holland has previously opened up about the plans of Marvel
The fourth film after Spider-Man: No Way Home entered development in 2021. Notably, producer Amy Pascal later claimed that the upcoming instalment was supposed to lead to a trilogy. While Brand New Day is out now in theatres, Marvel Studios has not opened up on what they are planning next for Tom Holland and 'Spider-Man.'
However, Tom had previously claimed that there have already been talks about him eventually stepping away from the role, which will be played by someone else at one point. While promoting Brand New Day, Tom Holland appeared for an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he said:
“There's a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. It's laid out. It's gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it's really exciting.”
Tom said that he is excited to see who will next portray 'Spider-Man,' adding that being part of shaping the character’s future is the thing he wants to do most. He also mentioned that he would like to help the actor who plays the role and prepare him. Tom said this in reference to how Robert Downey Jr. was his mentor for three films. Tom even stated that he would like to see actor Owen Cooper play 'Spider-Man.'
