Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapper Targets Savannah Guthrie As Disturbing Ransom Note Emerges Amid Her Return

Nancy Guthrie's case reached its second month. Amid that, the kidnappers have shared another chilling new ransom note, which has left everyone shocked.

Nancy Guthrie has been officially missing for over two months now, and with every passing day, the hope of her well-being and return has been withering away. These past two months have been extremely hard for the Guthrie family, as they have not only put their faith to the test but also drawn negative attention. Amid that, a new ransom note has left everyone in utter shock as it points to the alleged kidnapper's plan to torture Nancy's daughter and TV host, Savannah Guthrie.

Nancy Guthrie's missing case has become more complicated with every passing week, as everyone tries to figure out exactly what happened on the night of January 31, 2026, and in the early hours of February 1, 2026. It's been over two months with no real leads, no suspect identified, and no motive. And though police are fairly certain Savannah Guthrie's mom was kidnapped from her house sometime, they still know very little about the details that happened. While the family has received several ransom notes, they haven't paid any of them, which means either the notes were considered fake or no proof of life was provided to the family.

Nonetheless, the ransom notes have continued to come in. The latest note came following Savannah's return to the Today show. Rob Shuter reflected on the note and said that Savannah "was told this would happen the moment she went back on TV. And sadly, it did." Additionally, a source claimed that Savannah, too, feared it would happen once she returned to work, saying she was concerned that people would start "inserting themselves into the story for attention or money." A former FBI agent, Jennifer Coffindaffer, told Newsweek:

"They sent these right when Savannah Guthrie went back to work. That was by no mistake; that was absolutely meant to further torment her and her family. I think it speaks to the fact that there is at least someone out there who is still willing to torture this family by sending these continued communications with no proof of life."

What do we know about Nancy Guthrie's missing case so far?

The retired FBI agent has alleged that the last two notes, one of which claimed Nancy Guthrie was dead, and the other which claimed they'd seen her with the kidnappers in Mexico, were fake. According to reports, these notes were sent by the same person who had previously claimed they could deliver the kidnappers. However, Jennifer Coffindaffer's reasoning is that the requested amount is only 1 bitcoin, which is currently valued at around USD 70,000. That's less than the money the family is offering. She was quoted as saying: 

"The reason this makes sense to me is that they don’t have that knowledge, because they’re not seeking the USD 1.2 million. Instead, they’re trying to subvert it with this...quickly paid, no hoops to jump through, just get the money. But I think that these people are scammers."

Cold case specialist detective, Brian Martin has alleged that the kidnappers might have dumped Nancy Guthrie's body

The Indiana detective who specialises in cold cases, Brian Martin, recently told NewsNation that there is a possibility that  Nancy Guthrie's captors ended up dumping her body. He alleged that Nancy might have suffered a medical episode during the kidnapping, which may have led the kidnappers to take such drastic steps. He was quoted as saying:

"What really bothers me is if they underestimated Miss Guthrie’s health and thought, ‘Well, we’ll take her, this will be easy. We’ll hold on to her at an unknown location for a day or two. We’ll get some money out of this, and we’ll leave her in a Walmart parking lot'. And what they had to do is…it sounds horrible…They had to dispose of Miss Guthrie because she was no longer of value to them in terms of the monetary gain they were hoping to get. And what they had to do is…it sounds horrible."
