I Threw My Gold Jewellery Into Lagoon After Salvation — Foluke Adeboye
by Enioluwa Adeniyi · Naija NewsThe wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Foluke Adeboye, has revealed how she discarded her gold jewellery after becoming a born-again Christian.
She made the disclosure while recounting her early days in the church and the personal sacrifices she made in line with her faith.
Adeboye said she gave up her love for fashion after joining the RCCG, noting that wearing earrings was discouraged at the time.
“Every woman loves fashion. The moment we were born again then in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon,” she said.
She explained that the items she threw away included valuable gold jewellery she had kept, as well as pieces she had prepared for her child.
According to her, the decision was based on her conviction that the items no longer aligned with her new beliefs.
Adeboye also recounted how a family acquaintance questioned her decision, suggesting she could have given the jewellery to her mother to sell.
However, she maintained that her decision was guided by her faith. “Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” she said.
The cleric’s wife said she has no regrets over her decision, adding that she does not miss the items.
“I don’t miss anything, not much,” she stated.
