Govt. to introduce CEIR starting first week of March
by EMG · Eleven Media Group Co., LtdThe CEIR and EIR System Project Steering Committee announced that the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) will be implemented from the first week of March.
According to a press release from the CEIR and EIR System Project Steering Committee, the CEIR will be implemented from the first week of March 2026 to enable mobile phone users to use their mobile phones that meet the standards and have paid taxes to the state with confidence.
In this process, mobile phones currently in use will be automatically added to the CEIR system’s approved list to continue using them without having to pay taxes. In order to be included in the approved list, mobile phones will need to insert and activate MPT or ATOM or Ooredoo or Mytel SIM cards in their mobile phones by March 31, 2026.
In some countries of the world, the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) Code of mobile network communication devices, including mobile phones, is being registered in the CEIR and used to connect to communication networks in the country, and this is what is being done in Myanmar, according to the committee.
In this process, companies that want to import mobile phones and mobile network communication devices from abroad will also have to import them in accordance with the procedures and after paying the applicable taxes, they will be included in the CEIR system's approved list. From April 1, mobile phones that are not on the approved list will be allowed to be used temporarily for 30 days from the time they are connected to mobile communication networks, and they will be allowed to continue using them only after paying the applicable taxes and fines during this period.
By entering the IMEI of the mobile phone and the type of phone, the taxes and fines will be paid online. For people in border areas where it is difficult to access the internet, the taxes and fines will be paid at the local Internal Revenue Department offices or Customs Department offices.
For more information about this initiative, the public can visit the website https://www.ceir.gov.mm or contact the CEIR Call Center numbers during office hours, the committee announced.
