It has been reported that additional special up and down trains will be operated on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw and Nay Pyi Taw–Yangon routes during the December public holiday period.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications’ Myanma Railways stated that with improvements to railway tracks, modernization of the signalling system, and the use of modern locomotives and passenger coaches, train speeds on the main Yangon–Mandalay railway line have been increased and travel times reduced. In order to provide more comfortable travel for rail passengers, modern air-conditioned DEMU trainsets are currently being operated daily on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw route, including Train No. (7) Up/(8) Down and Train No. (31) Up/(32) Down.

As passenger demand has been high, Myanma Railways has announced that, in addition to the regular services, special DEMU up and down trains will be added on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw–Yangon route during the December holiday period to ensure convenient travel for the public and departmental staff.

Regarding the expanded services, on December 19, a special DEMU (Spanish-made) up train will depart Yangon at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in Nay Pyi Taw at 12:00 noon. On December 20, a special DEMU (Spanish-made) down train will depart Nay Pyi Taw at 12:30 p.m. and arrive in Yangon at 6:00 p.m. On December 21, another special DEMU (Spanish-made) up train will depart Yangon at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in Nay Pyi Taw at 12:00 noon.

The additional trains will also use modern air-conditioned DEMU (Spanish-made) trainsets. Ticket fares and station stops will be the same as those of the regular daily DEMU services. Tickets can be reserved up to five days in advance by telephone for the desired journey and paid for online using the MMQR system. Tickets can also be purchased at relevant stations, with upper-class tickets available three days in advance and ordinary-class tickets one day in advance.

Myanma Railways also stated that special trains will continue to be added during future long holiday periods, and advance announcements will be made for the convenience of travelers.
