36 Arrested in Massive Crackdown on Illegal Online Gambling Network Across Yangon

Authorities have busted a major illegal online gambling syndicate operating across several townships in Yangon, arresting 36 suspects—13 men and 23 women—and seizing substantial electronic equipment, vehicles, and assets.

The crackdown began on August 21 when joint security forces raided a residence in North Dagon following public tips. Officers arrested ringleader Aye Nyan Paing alongside 24 accomplices and confiscated dozens of computers, laptops, and mobile phones used to manage agent accounts for gambling platforms such as One5one, buffalo 169, and Sport169. A key associate was subsequently detained in Tachilek.

Follow-up raids targeted the network behind "99 Legends Online Game," leading to the arrests of manager Aung Kyaw (alias AK), human resources coordinator Nan Hwam Yone, and several operators across Ahlon, Dawbon, Botahtaung, and South Okkalapa. Interrogations revealed the platform operated under the direction of Taiwanese Pi Chief Yu (alias Jack Pi), who fled to Malaysia in April 2025, receiving wagers via bank transfers coordinated over Telegram.

Investigators also dismantled an affiliated online 1D/2D/3D lottery ring tied to the network, capturing financial backer Naing Win Tun, shareholder Tayzar Aung, and their local agents and accountants in Hlaingthaya, Twantay, and South Dagon. Alongside impounding numerous computers, phones, and two vehicles, authorities have frozen 396.8 million kyats across 12 bank accounts as legal proceedings against the syndicate continue.
