MR launches battery-powered electric trains on Mandalay-Lashio line, introduces RBE services on PyinOoLwin-Goteik route

Myanma Railways (MR) will start operating the PyinOoLwin-Zee Pin Gyi-PyinOoLwin route on the Mandalay-Lashio route and the PyinOoLwin-Goteik-PyinOoLwin route on the RBE train on December 19.

The Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications is planning to operate passenger train services on various railway sections to facilitate public travel. The Zee Pin Gyi-PyinOoLwin-Goteik route on the Mandalay-Lashio route will allow domestic and foreign tourists to visit the historic Goteik Viaduct, explore the natural landscapes of the rivers, forests and mountains along the route, and build friendship with the local people in Shan State and gain local knowledge. The Zee Pin Gyi-PyinOoLwin-Zee Pin Gyi route will be operated using a battery-powered electric locomotive (BEL) in the No.131 Down Zee Pin Gyi-PyinOoLwin and the No.132 Up PyinOoLwin-Zee Pin Gyi schedules, and the RBE trains Goteik (1) on PyinOoLwin-Goteik route and Goteik (2) on Goteik-PyinOoLwin route will be operated on Saturdays and Sundays starting from December 19.

The No.131 Up train, which will be operated by a battery-powered electric locomotive, will depart from Zee Pin Gyi Station at 6 am and arrive at PyinOoLwin Station at 7:30 am. The Goteik (1) RBE train will depart from PyinOoLwin Station at 8 am and arrive at Goteik Station at 11:30 am. The Goteik (2) RBE train will depart from Goteik Station at 12:30 pm and return to PyinOoLwin Station at 4 pm.

Passengers who wish to continue their journey from PyinOoLwin to Zee Pin Gyi can take the 132 Down BEL train, which will depart from PyinOoLwin Station at 4:15 pm and arrive in Zee Pin Gyi at 6 pm.

The Zee Pin Gyi-PyinOoLwin, PyinOoLwin-Zee Pin Gyi BEL train route has one upper class passenger car, two ordinary class passenger cars and one brake car. The ticket price from Zee Pin Gyi to PyinOoLwin is Ks5,000 for ordinary class and Ks10,000 for upper class.

The PyinOoLwin-Goteik, Goteik-PyinOoLwin RBE train route can accommodate 40 passengers and the ticket price from PyinOoLwin to Goteik is Ks15,000. It will stop at Pwe Kauk, Wet Won, Sam Se, Nawnghkio stations along the way, and at Ahni Sa Kham and Thone Taung stations on the PyinOoLwin-Zee Pin Gyi route.

In the future, the train will run every weekend. For the PyinOoLwin-Goteik round trip, tour companies, travel agencies, and private schools can rent an RBE train (entire train) for up to 24 people, and the round trip will cost 30,000 kyats per person, totaling 720,000 kyats, according to the MR.
