Patagonia's newest insulated jacket, which borrows technology from its toughest workwear coat, takes aim at one of the biggest flaws with modern puffers

Patagonia has begun unveiling its Fall/Winter 2026 collection, and one of the first new arrivals is the Durable Down Hoody, an insulated jacket designed for climbers and mountaineers who need warmth without treating their gear gently.
Patagonia has focused on longevity with this jacket, borrowing a lighter version of the brand's Steel Forge workwear fabric, a material originally developed for demanding job sites, and adapting it for alpine use.
The result is a shell made from a 98% recycled nylon and 2% recycled polyester Ultra-PE ripstop fabric that's designed to shrug off scrapes against rock, rough packs and repeated use while remaining noticeably lighter than its workwear counterpart.

The weight of expectation
The jacket is insulated with 700-fill-power 100% recycled down reclaimed from duck and goose down products.
Patagonia has also body-mapped 80g Thermogreen synthetic insulation into the cuffs and underarms, helping maintain warmth in areas more likely to become damp from sweat or snow while improving long-term durability.
The brand says the quilting pattern is intentionally "discontinuous," allowing the down to loft while giving the shoulders greater freedom of movement during overhead reaches.
The hood features a single-pull adjustment and elastic binding to help seal in heat, while the two-way front zip improves comfort when belaying or wearing a harness.

Patagonia has also included two generous handwarmer pockets, with the jacket packing into its own left pocket for transport.
Despite its emphasis on durability, the Men's version weighs just 652g, making it a practical option for cold-weather climbing trips, winter hiking and alpine objectives where abrasion resistance matters as much as insulation.
As expected from Patagonia, sustainability remains central to the design.
The shell and lining both use recycled materials, the DWR treatment is made without intentionally added PFAS, the down is entirely recycled, and the jacket is manufactured in a Fair Trade Certified factory.
The Durable Down Hoody is available now at Patagonia US and Patagonia UK for the recommended price of $365 / £350 (~£271 / €316 / AU$518).
Availability in other regions is expected in the coming months.
