Apple announced iOS 27 during its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June and with it, several new features that will be coming to compatible iPhones later this year. But you don’t have to wait to try many of those new tricks, the public beta is now available to sign up for and download.
Yes, beta software can be buggy (the idea is that the more people who test and report these glitches, the better the final software should be when it arrives), but if you don’t mind the odd crash or stall, the iOS 27 beta is well worth downloading.
Siri AI is one reason for this – I have been running the developer beta of iOS 27 since WWDC and have been very impressed with what Siri AI has managed to do so far.

Clean Up in Photos
Apple released the original Clean Up in 2024, allowing you to remove unwanted objects from the background of photos, like a bin or bench that ruins your shot. It was pretty good, but with iOS 27, it’s much more convincing.
It can remove larger objects and fill in the space more accurately. You can also use it on older images, so if you have a picture from a holiday a couple of months or years ago, with a pesky tourist in the background ruining your otherwise excellent selfie, give it a try and you might be surprised.
Change the way your AirPods sound
AirPods have always sounded pretty decent in my opinion, but the iOS 27 public beta allows you to tweak the way they sound to your preferences.

There is a new Custom EQ setting available with the software, allowing you to fiddle with the mids, highs and lows. The setting will work on AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2.
Automatically change compromised passwords
The iOS 27 public beta has a feature that enables Safari to change any compromised passwords for you automatically. This might not sound like a big deal, but I have 500 compromised passwords apparently, and the main reason I have so many is that I haven’t found the spare time change each one in turn.
This feature is therefore enough of a reason on its own to download the new software, for security reasons if nothing else.
How to get the iOS 27 public beta
To download and install the iOS 27 public beta, head to Apple's public beta website.
Once you're signed up, you’ll need to head to Settings > General > Software Update and then choose the iOS 27 Public Beta to install the update.
I do recommend backing up your phone though, so you can switch back to iOS 26 should you want to.
