The i7 eDrive50 is a full size 4 door car that has been designed from the ground up as an EV electric vehicle. The i7 comes in 3 models: the eDrive50, the xDrive60, and the M70, with the eDrive50 being the base model, the xDrive60 offering more power, and the M70 being the performance focused option.
The 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 and the i7 xDrive60 are essentially the same vehicle with one primary difference. The i7 eDrive50 has a single electric motor with rear wheel drive (RWD), while the i7 xDrive60 has dual electric motors with xDrive all wheel drive (AWD).
This week BMW sent me a 2024 i7 eDrive50 all electric EV sedan with a base price of $105,700 to test drive and review. The options on this RWD electric car are: the special paint for $1,950, the driver assistance package for $2,000, the luxury rear seating package for $1,500, the M Sport package for $3,900, the 21″ alloy wheels for $1,300, the M Sport professional package for $950, the premium package for $1,400, the executive package for $3,700, and the Bowers & Wilkins sound system for $4,800. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $995 destination charge is: $128,195.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $144,219. At just over $144 Grand, this all electric BMW sedan is a high tech mix of EV power and luxury options that can go up to 311 miles on a full charge. Charging time takes 11 hours on a Level II 240 volt home charger, while a Level III 440v DC fast charger can fill the on board battery pack to 80% capacity in about 30 minutes, with the fuel economy rating pegged at 88 MPGe.
As this is a high performance all electric luxury sedan, BMW has loaded in all the good stuff, like a full leather interior, heated seats, heated front and rear arm rests, wireless charging, acoustic noise protection, multifunction rear seats, a connected pro driving package, a curved center stack, a digital dashboard, head up display, a charging socket, enhanced USB and Bluetooth, 5G connectivity, dynamic cruise control and an extended travel and comfort seating package.
Performance and comfort are enhanced with the M Sport upgrades and include a set of M Sport 21″ star spoke alloy wheels, an M Sport heated steering wheel, M Sport shadow line exterior trim, M Sport exterior and interior elements, M Sport disc brake calipers with black logos and M Sport carbon fiber interior trim with silver thread cross stitching.
Tech is always a big thing in BMW’s. This i7 EV comes with active parking distance control, a rear view camera, an inside camera, a front view camera, acoustic sound protection, remote software updates, active driving assistant pro, dynamic cruise control, highway assist, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sirius XM satellite radio and acoustic pedestrian protection.
This i7 also has the Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 655 watts of power and 18 speakers and you can upgrade to the top tier Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system with 1,965 watts of power and 39 speakers. This includes 4D sound from speakers integrated into the front seat backs, for an immersive listening experience, with Diamond signifying the use of their signature diamond dome tweeter technology.
The 2024 BMW i7 is an all electric luxury sedan that offers features that make it a top EV pick. For power, it has a 101.7 kWh battery pack and can produce up to 650 horsepower, and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds. For range, the i7 can go over 310 miles on a full charge, which is comparable to other EVs in this price class. For comfort, the i7 has an adaptive suspension system that provides a smooth ride, even on rough terrain. The seats are extremely comfortable and the interior can be customized with extended Merino leather seat upholstery with real wood oak trim.
