Bella Thorne Says She and Zendaya Were Pitted Against Each Other at Disney
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREZendaya is truly everywhere. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey, Bella Thorne’s episode of Call Her Daddy. Everywhere. With host Alex Cooper, Thorne discussed her Disney Channel days, saying she and Zendaya had been pitted against each other while co-starring as best friends on Shake It Up. “It got pretty bad,” Thorne said, adding that people can’t stand it when women are cool with other women. “It’s just ‘Nope! We have to make you guys all beg for one spot.’” Who are these people making the women beg? Cooper pointed to adults within the show and the stars’ management, while Thorne cast an even wider net: “The media is telling you this; the fans are telling you this.”
Thorne told Cooper that she and Zendaya had squashed the beef themselves when no adult would. “It got to a point where, when we were on our Good Luck Charlie crossover, we escaped to another set in the middle of live taping,” she said. “We got into it, hashed it out, and it was so beautiful.” Thorne and Zendaya exchanged notes and realized the animosity between them wasn’t coming from either one. “It was my first experience — woman to woman, girl to girl — where you actually can speak,” Thorne said. “You can both be heard about the different things you’ve been experiencing and what people are saying and how they’re trying to do this to you. You can walk out of there seeing each other.”
