Supergirl Lands in a Toy’s World
by Alejandra Gularte · VULTUREIt’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a group of toys, and they’re still dominating the box office. Toy Story 5 continues to be the No. 1 movie in theaters this weekend, with an estimated $70 million at the box office. Last week, it had the biggest domestic box-office opening of the year, with $160 million, making it harder for the rest of the summer flicks to catch up, even if they’re from Krypton. Newcomer Supergirl crash-landed on planet Earth, only to find out that everyone is still loving their favorite Pixar toys, as it is estimated to earn $40 million for its first round in theaters. It scores the no. 2 spot behind the toys fighting mean iPad kids and just above the indie hit Obsession.
Compared to James Gunn’s Superman, his cousin’s movie isn’t doing so hot. Superman debuted to $120 million domestically, with an overall domestic box office of $354 million for its time in theaters. Kara Zor-El has some catching up to do. God speed.
