Wayne Brady Calls Bill Maher Racist — Again
by Jason P. Frank · VULTUREHey, want to have some fun with an ongoing feud that you might not remember? Turns out Wayne Brady hates Bill Maher — and has for a long time. “He is racist,” Brady said on the America, Who Hurt You? podcast today. “I don’t care. Bill Maher can say that ‘I have all these Black friends, dah, dah, dah.’” Brady has known Maher for a while, even going on Maher’s ABC show Politically Incorrect in the aughts. But his opinion has long since soured. “I grew up watching Bill Maher, thought he was funny, but listen when people tell you who they are,” Brady said.
Brady first fought with Maher over a comment the white comedian made in 2010. “Oh Barry, when u r going to stop trying to make everybody like u?” Maher said in a tweet about Barack Obama. “We need u to be Suge Knight now, and you’re still acting like Wayne Brady.” Two years later, Brady responded via Aisha Tyler’s podcast, Girl on Guy. “It’s a diss to Obama to be called me, because he wants a brother brother,” he said. He added, “Now I’m not sayin’ I’m Billy Badass, but if Bill Maher has his perception of what’s Black wrapped up, I would gladly slap the shit out of Bill Maher in the middle of the street. And then I want to see what Bill Maher would do.”
In 2026, Brady is no longer threatening to slap Maher (should he bring it back, though?), but he’s still righteously angry. “There was a party way back in the day that I went to at the Playboy Mansion, and there was Bill Maher with two sisters on his arm,” Brady said. “And I looked at him, and I’m never going to be one to yuck your yum, but yuck. I saw it for what it was. I was like, This is a cat who believes that your proximity [to Blackness] gives you the right to say what you want to say about another people whose shoes you’ll never walk in and whose shoes you step on. So I’ll say it out loud that I don’t hate Bill Maher. I don’t know him as a person like that, but what I do know is I know his words. So based on your words, I don’t like you as a human because you’re harmful to other people with the views that you espouse and the things that [you] said and the platform that he has.” Well, it’s a verbal slap at the very least.
