Druski Enters His Mainstream Mogul Era

by · VULTURE

When Saturday Night Live announced that Druski is going to host the show on November 7, the news came with a record. He was the first “digital creator” to host the show. A YouTube and social-media-based comedian, he represented just how big a star could get without fully engaging with the Hollywood system. But ahead of his hosting stint, Druski is pivoting to mainstream. The comedian and his company, 4Lifers Entertainment, have signed a multiyear deal with Netflix. Their first series will be called Collect & Praise, and it follows a money-obsessed megachurch preacher. The series, which will co-star Druski and Mike Epps, follows a character that Druski has played in sketches and when he hosted the BET Awards. “Faith comes second to fortune as a money-hungry megachurch pastor (Druski) and his unpredictable deacon (Mike Epps) scheme their way through scandal, chaos and controversy in this comedic episodic series,” the logline for the series describes. It will premiere on the service December 1.

The news of the deal comes with a trailer that teases Druski’s whole career being turned into Netflix shows. In it, he plays himself as a megabusinessman, signing deals and storming into board rooms. The comedian passes through various shows he’s already created, like Coulda Been Love, Coulda Been House, Coulda Been Daddy, and the Michael parody Joe, which are now licensed with Netflix as part of the deal.

“I’ve built my platform by creating characters and comedy that resonate with people,” Druski said in a statement. “This partnership with Netflix will give me the resources to build on that comedy foundation and bring my work to a new global audience. It’s a tremendous opportunity for our team at 4LIFERS Entertainment to expand our reach, develop original programming for the masses and take our creativity to new heights.” Get ready for bossman Druski.
