We’re ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Over ‘Christmas’ (For Now)

Happy solstice to you and yours: Ella Langley spring has turned into Ella Langley summer has turned into Ella Langley fall. The 27-year-old country star’s hit single “Choosin’ Texas,” released in November of last year, has now hit its 23rd week as No. 1 on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart, officially toppling Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” It’s the longest run ever achieved and a monumental accomplishment for a relative newcomer on the scene. Earlier this year, Langley had three of the top-five songs on the Billboard “Hot 100,” both riding in on and ushering an even bigger wave of pop-country hits that have dominated the airwaves and Uber rides since the summer. Even Drake remixed her song, which is a sign of, well, something.

That said, the days are getting shorter and there’s a pleasant chill in the air, which means that Christmas music will be upon us sooner than we know it, with Carey likely to retake her title in a matter of weeks. But Langley could still surprise us yet, as she has all year. “Choosin’ Texas” may eventually fall from the charts, but that doesn’t mean we’ll say good-bye to Langley anytime soon. Maybe there’s a Christmas remix to come.
