Ireland is bracing for a chilly Thursday and Friday night, with temperatures expected to plunge to freezing. Met Eireann has warned that the upcoming days will be "relatively cold for October," bringing the likelihood of frost.

As autumn settles in, many households across the country are grappling with a seasonal challenge: condensation on windows. This common issue arises when warm, moist air comes into contact with cooler surfaces, resulting in water beads forming on windows - a frequent occurrence during colder months when warm indoor air hits cold glass.

Not only does it create a visual barrier on windows that can obscure views, if left unchecked it can lead to more serious problems. If windows aren't maintained, the moisture could develop into dangerous mould that can cause health issues like asthma, eczema and bronchitis.

To combat this problem, cleaning enthusiasts have shared their best hacks for eliminating condensation. Many agree that a simple household ingredient can effectively banish the issue.

In the Facebook group 'Cleaning Tips and Tricks', designed for avid cleaners to exchange advice, one user sought help with condensation issues. They posted, "Guys, any recommendations for keeping condensation and damp at bay at this time of year? Especially on and above windows."

Responses ranged from investing in a dehumidifier to simply wiping the condensation away as it appears. However, one suggestion stood out for its popularity and simplicity - using salt.

Numerous users recommended placing salt in a dish on the windowsill, with one commenter exclaiming: "Salt works wonders."

Another added, "Put a bowl of salt out; it absorbs the moisture," while a third chimed in, "Salt in a dish on the windowsill - cheap and it works!"

One user expressed her gratitude for the salt tip in a post, stating: "Thank you to whoever suggested putting a plate of salt on the windowsill for condensation. I was shocked; it really does work! No more wiping windows in the morning."

This post resonated with hundreds of cleaning enthusiasts, who tagged friends and family to share the tip, with many agreeing that this simple solution had transformed their experience. "Yes, it does work! I don't have a condensation problem anymore," one satisfied user reported.

While the weather over the coming days will feel chilly, there is hope on the horizon as long-range forecasts indicate that Ireland could be in for an 'Indian summer' later this month.
