Revealed: Photocopying Ghana Cards for transactions is now an offence
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comPhotocopying or visually inspecting a Ghana Card for the purpose of carrying out a transaction is now an offence under the National Identity Register (Amendment) Regulations, 2026 (LI 2523).
Under the new regulations, “‘Biometric verification is now mandatory,'” replacing the practice of relying on photocopies or visual inspection of the Ghana Card during transactions.
The amendment, which was introduced in Parliament three months ago, has now matured and been gazetted, bringing the new requirements into effect.
The regulations state that an organisation that fails to comply “‘commits an offence'” and, upon summary conviction, faces a fine of “‘at least 500 penalty units and up to 2,000 penalty units.'”
Individuals who breach the law also face fines ranging from 50 to 500 penalty units.
