Paging error sees 6500 texts sent to volunteer firefighters about old emergencies

A paging error has seen volunteer firefighters turn out to non-existent calls.

Fire and Emergency said it was testing its alert system on Tuesday morning when it started pinging brigades about old emergencies.

It said it regretted the error that saw 6500 texts sent to firefighters before the problem was rectified.

Some firefighters realised the calls were historic, but other volunteers showed up at their stations.
