A 29-year-old woman has been arrested after a bottle was thrown at supermarket security guards this afternoon and police were assaulted.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said the woman fled an Auckland CBD supermarket without paying for more than $100 worth of groceries.

Baldwin said the woman later returned to the store and threw a bottle at security guards.

He said when police and the dog unit arrived, the woman spat at one officer and kicked another while they restrained her.

Baldwin said the arrested woman was taken to hospital for a minor dog bite.
