Fire and Emergency has contained a leak of a hazardous substance at the Port of Auckland.

Crews from Auckland City, Grey Lynn, Avondale, Balmoral, Parnell, Mount Roskill and Ōtara were sent to Fergusson Wharf about 9.20am on Saturday in response to the spill.

A Port of Auckland spokesperson told RNZ that the substance on the ANL Kiwi Trader container ship belonged to a customer.

Fire and Emergency provided a solution for cleaning up the spill and left it with Port of Auckland staff about 11.30am.

It is still not confirmed what the hazardous substance was, but Fire and Emergency said there was no risk to the public.
