Cessnock couple's $1.2m Lotto win fast-tracks dream home renovations
by Madeline Link · Newcastle HeraldA Cessnock couple can now get stuck into home renovations after they won $1.2 million in Saturday's Lotto.
The pair said they have been stuck in a "surreal" loop of rechecking their ticket after discovering the massive windfall.
When an official called to confirm the life-changing win, the couple said reality still had not sunk in.
"I couldn't be better today," the husband said.
"We've been double-checking it non-stop. It's very surreal.
"I initially saw it when I got a notification saying I'd had a win. I thought it would be my usual $10 or $20. Then I opened it and thought it was $12,000."
The man said he got his wife to check it and that's when reality struck.
The pair said the prize came at the perfect time, fast-tracking plans to start home renovations and afterwards do something nice for themselves.
The Hunter Valley residents held one of five division one winning entries nationally in Saturday's Lotto draw.
Each division one winning entry pocketed $1.2 million.
The pair purchased their winning 25-game QuickPick from Cessnock West Newsagency.
Business owner Troy Neil said he was over the moon to hear the news.
"We did it, congratulations to the winner," he said.
"I think everyone will be happy to see someone in our region won so much.
"Here's to selling more winning tickets soon."
The last time the Cessnock newsagency sold a winning ticket was in 2021.
