McDonald's prank in Prebbleton
by Daniel Alvey · Otago Daily Times Online NewsPrebbleton residents were not lovin’ it when it looked like there was a McDonald's coming to town.
But it was only someone playing a prank.
The sign was attached to a real estate hoarding on a vacant Springs Rd property currently for lease.
Harcourts agent Paul Middleditch, whose hoarding it was attached to, did not believe it when he got a message on Friday morning asking when McDonald's was opening in Prebbleton.
“I figured it was just some kid messing with me, until a mate sent me a pic of my ‘for lease’ sign in Prebbleton and I was like hold up, did I miss something?”
Middleditch initially thought it was AI, but when the calls started coming in, he realised it was not.
Prebbleton Community Facebook page followers also did not realise it was a joke.
“Are you actually serious? Are they really bringing McDonald’s to Prebbleton? Prebbleton obviously has all the corporations rolling in now. Who will be next: KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Subway,” one person wrote.
Said another: “Terrible! I can already see the queue of primary school kids lining up at 8.30am and 3pm every day if they come to Prebbleton.”
Middleditch said he was nearing completion on a lease agreement for the site, but was unable to say what it was for other than it was confirming it was not McDonald’s.
“If it does go together, it will be beneficial for the community,” he said.
