"Why do you keep messaging someone who has a boyfriend?" Man alleges BTOB's Minhyuk slid into the DMs of his girlfriend
by Sophie-Ha · allkpopBTOB's Minhyuk has found himself in a controversy involving his alleged direct messages to a woman.
On November 27, an incident on social media caught the attention of BTOB fans. The incident began when an online user left comments on Minhyuk's social media saying, "Why do you keep messaging someone who has a boyfriend? Are you trying to get yourself in trouble? Focus on your own business and think about your fans—get a grip," and added, "She says it’s embarrassing that you keep contacting her, but you persist. Are you trying to make a fool of yourself?"
Minhyuk allegedly deleted the comments left by the user but the individual continued to leave comments demanding that Minhyuk apologize. As the incident gained traction, Minhyuk took to his fan site to explain the whole incident.
Minhyuk explained that he had coincidentally seen his ex-girlfriend and decided to send her a direct message on social media. He shared, "Yesterday during the daytime, I sent a message to an ex-girlfriend. I was curious about how she was doing after a long time, so I sent, 'Why don't I have your contact information anymore?' That was all, but in the end, I shouldn’t have done it. I acted foolishly for no reason."
He further explained that he sent the message to his ex-girlfriend without deep meaning and just wanted to see how she was doing. However, the male online user alleged that his girlfriend never dated Minhyuk in the past and that Minhyuk was one-sidely sending messages to the user's girlfriend.
The user left a lengthy explanation in the comment, saying, "Since yesterday, something that seemed insignificant has been causing continuous discussion, so I want to clearly and truthfully address it for reporters and fans alike, without any falsehoods or omissions." He continued, "Minhyuk contacted my girlfriend, asking for her contact information. My girlfriend responded by saying, 'Why do you need to know that?' and told him not to contact her. I was upset and directly messaged him saying 'Don't contact someone who has a boyfriend,' and used some harsh words."
The user claimed that Minhyuk continued to message his girlfriend on social media, ignoring her clear signs of annoyance and discomfort. According to the user, Minhyuk lied that the user's girlfriend was an ex-girlfriend in the statement posted on his fan site.
The user explained, "Then, out of nowhere, he posted an unreasonable post in an online cafe. What he wrote there was completely different from the messages he sent me, claiming that she was his ex-girlfriend or something like that. So, I contacted him again via direct message and asked for his phone number so we could have a conversation. He apologized and said he would delete the cafe post and write an explanation in the comments."
The user continued, "Later, he called again, saying he would revise the cafe post to say that he 'liked her one-sidedly.' I told him that I wasn’t interested in his excuses, and my girlfriend was baffled and annoyed by the situation. I asked him to simply remove the ridiculous claims. He agreed and said he would get back to me. But after waiting, I received no further contact from him. Instead, I ended up receiving a phone call from his company. Since then, I’ve been discussing this incident with his company."
After this incident has received public attention in various online communities, Korean netizens have shared their opinions on the matter. They commented:
