On May 22, Jang addressed the controversy through a paid fan communication platform, saying, “I am sorry for causing discomfort and disappointment due to expressions stemming from my carelessness and lack of awareness, as well as my attitude afterward during yesterday’s interaction.”
The issue arose after he engaged in conversation with fans and referred to a trending term among younger users, describing it as “the perfect replacement for ‘ang-gi-mo-ti’” and using additional playful variations of the phrase.
Controversy escalated after it was pointed out that the expression “ang-gi-mo-ti” has been used in some extremist online communities with vulgar or offensive connotations. When fans warned him not to use terms associated with such communities, Jang responded defensively, saying he would not delete his messages, questioning how he was supposed to know their background, and suggesting that those who felt uncomfortable should leave the platform.
As criticism grew, the singer later clarified his position and issued an apology, stating that he had used the expression carelessly without fully understanding how it could be interpreted or used in different contexts. He emphasized that regardless of intent, he should have been more cautious.
He also acknowledged that he initially responded too defensively rather than recognizing the concern, adding that he now deeply reflects on his behavior. “Through this incident, I have come to realize how much responsibility words and actions carry in communication. Moving forward, I will be more careful and responsible in all interactions,” he said.
