tvN has finally spoken up about the possible airing of the long-awaited drama 'Signal 2', following lead actor Cho Jin Woong's controversies and his subsequent retirement from the entertainment industry.

'Signal 2' is the sequel to one of tvN's biggest hit dramas of all time, 'Signal', aired in 2016. The drama was written by scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee and starred Cho Jin Woong, Kim Hye Soo, and Lee Jae Hoon. In light of tvN's 20th anniversary as well as the drama's 10th anniversary, the highly-anticipated sequel was set to air in the second half of 2026. All of the drama's original cast members had decided to come back together again for season 2, and filming had successfully wrapped up in August of this year.

Then, on December 6 KST, Cho Jin Woong abruptly announced his early retirement from the entertainment industry, spurred by his past run-ins with the law including theft and assault as a teen, as well as assault while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated as an adult. This put 'Signal 2' in jeopardy, worrying many fans of the series.

On December 19 KST, tvN addressed these concerns by stating, "'Signal 2' is a production that we have prepared with utmost care for the viewers who have waited for a sequel for 10 years, in the hopes of airing it in the second half of 2026. Thus, we deeply empathize with the concerns and the disappointment of viewers, and feel much regret over the recent events."

The broadcasting station continued, "'Signal 2' is a project that countless staff, actors, and affiliates worked on from its planning to production. In order to preserve the true value of the project, we will find the best solution for the project as well as for the viewers, even if that process will take some time."
