IVE's Jang Won Young predicted the 'Dubai Dessert' resurgence? Old clip resurfaces
by Helena-son · allkpopIVE's Jang Won Young is gaining attention for seemingly predicting the return of the viral "Dubai Dessert" trend.
In January of this year, Jang Won Young appeared on the web show 'Dex's Fridge Interview'. When host Dex noticed pistachio spread in her fridge, she excitedly mentioned "Dubai Chocolate."
Dex teased her, saying, "Dubai Chocolate rose faster than anyone and fell faster than anyone in 2024." Jang Won Young pouted and replied, "But I still eat it. The first trend of 2025 will be Dubai Chocolate." Seeing her reaction, Dex quickly changed his stance, joking, "Then the trend starts again now!"
Her prediction has turned out to be surprisingly accurate. While the chocolate bar was the craze of the past, South Korea is currently obsessed with the "Dubai Chewy Cookie" (nicknamed Du-Jjon-Ku).
This new dessert features a marshmallow-based dough mixed with Kataifi (shredded pastry) and pistachio, coated in cacao powder. The combination of chewy and crispy textures has led to "open runs" (people lining up before stores open) across the country.
Fans are amazed that Jang Won Young's love for Dubai flavors foreshadowed this second wave of popularity.
Meanwhile, Jang Won Young and IVE recently kicked off their second world tour and are busy preparing for various year-end performances.
