The SBS drama ‘Sold Out On You’ has quickly captured viewers’ attention.
According to Nielsen Korea, Episode 2 of the SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama, which aired on April 23, recorded a 3.7% viewership rating in the Seoul metropolitan area, with a peak rating reaching 4.9%. This marks a slight increase from Episode 1, which aired on April 22 and scored 3.3%.
The episode kicked off with a chaotic first encounter between Matthew Lee (played by Ahn Hyo Seop) and Dam Ye Jin (played by Chae Won Bin), whose initial impressions were soured by unexpected traffic congestion. During the encounter, Dam Ye Jin discovered the rare white flower mushroom she had been searching for among the cargo on Matthew Lee’s cultivator, prompting her to ask for the farm owner’s contact information.
However, unwilling to get entangled with her, Matthew Lee concealed the fact that he was the farm owner and claimed the owner was unavailable. He even shut the farm gate in her face to keep her out.
Their seemingly ended connection was reignited thanks to Song Hak Daek (played by Go Doo Shim), an influential figure in Deokpung Village. After winning a home shopping event with Matthew Lee’s help, she prompted Dam Ye Jin to personally travel to the village to deliver the prize.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Dam Ye Jin once again tried to obtain the farm owner’s contact information, only to be turned away. In one instance, Matthew Lee even reported her to the police, mistaking her for a thief after she climbed over his wall while chasing a runaway chicken.
Despite the setbacks, Dam Ye Jin refused to give up. Determined to secure a live broadcast deal for her team, she stayed overnight at the farm and earnestly pleaded to meet the owner. Unaware that Matthew Lee was the owner, she grew to trust him after witnessing his meticulous care for the products.
Encouraged, Dam Ye Jin resolved to proceed with the live broadcast, raising anticipation over whether Matthew Lee would ultimately provide his precious mushrooms and when she would uncover his true identity.
In a surprising twist, late at night, Matthew Lee received an unexpected phone call from Dam Ye Jin. Mistaking him for her mother, she tearfully said, “Mom, why did you pick up so late?”—adding intrigue about how this misunderstanding will impact their relationship.
The story continues on April 29 on SBS.
Ahn Hyo Seop and Chae Won Bin’s Chemistry Draws Attention
Ahn Hyo Seop, known for hit dramas such as ‘Dr. Romantic’ and ‘Business Proposal’, return to television after four years. He takes on the role of Matthew Lee, a prickly yet warm-hearted farmer in Deokpung Village.
While he initially appears cold—firmly correcting villagers by saying, “It’s Matthew Lee, not quail”—he reveals a softer side by taking care of various village tasks, embodying a charming contrast between tough exterior and kind interior.
From delivering calves and chopping firewood to fixing roofs, removing beehives, and repairing greenhouses during storms, Matthew Lee proves to be an indispensable problem-solver in the village. He even operates his cultivator like a village bus and shows a gentle side when caring for a young student, highlighting the character’s depth.
His bickering chemistry with Dam Ye Jin, which began with a tense first meeting, has already set the stage for a lively romantic storyline.
Chae Won Bin also stands out with a bright and charming transformation. She plays Dam Ye Jin, a top home shopping host who struggles to separate work from her personal life. Her workaholic nature even leads to a breakup, as her boyfriend expresses a desire to meet her as a person, not just her professional persona.
Through this role, Chae Won Bin showcases a fresh and energetic side, contrasting with her previous darker character in ‘Such a Close Traitor’, where she portrayed a murder suspect.
Ahn Hyo Seop previously praised Chae Won Bin, noting her bright and lovely energy, while Chae Won Bin described him as having a “pure, boyish perspective” and commended his creativity on set.
What to Watch For
At the press conference held on April 15, director Ahn Jong Yeon described the series as a “therapy drama,” emphasizing comfort and healing as its core strengths. He expressed hope that viewers would find it a relaxing watch.
Ahn Hyo Seop added that the drama carries a message about life’s pace, suggesting that while people strive to live diligently, it’s also okay to take things easy sometimes.
With its rural setting, healing narrative, and enemies-to-lovers romance between Ahn Hyo Seop and Chae Won Bin, ‘Sold Out On You’ is drawing growing interest. Viewers are eager to see how the story unfolds and whether it will deliver the comfort and charm it promises.
