Lim Chang Jung recalls the night his audience walked out on him, on TV Chosun's 'Golden Friday'

Lim Chang Jung is set to open up about the strangest stretch of his career on TV Chosun's 'Golden Friday', airing July 17 at 10 PM KST.

The 30th episode of the trot competition show opens with Lim Chang Jung performing 'A Glass of Soju'. The cast called him a genre unto himself, and he warned the contestants about what his catalog does to singers who take it lightly, saying that going in underprepared could "jeopardize a singer's career, either by straining their voice or by creating negative buzz due to a less-than-perfect delivery."

Singer Son Bin Ah picked his Daesang-winning 'Again' anyway. "If it's going to be difficult anyway, I'll go for a song that won a Daesang," she said. Her arrangement pulls back on the usual trot inflections and leans toward a straight ballad reading.

The episode's main draw is what Lim Chang Jung says about winning that Daesang. 'Again' and 'Marry Me' were topping charts back to back, and by any outside measure he was at his peak.

He tells it differently. "I received all the insults I'd ever get in my life then," he said, then added the part that stops the room: "When I was singing, all the audience members left."

The full account of what happened that night airs on July 17.
