Nugget updated to v3.0 for ‘parity’ with Nugget Mobile & other improvements

Anthony Bouchard ∙ September 30, 2024

Nugget, the backup-based hacking utility that makes use of the same SparseRestore exploit that the TrollRestore TrollStore installation method does to allow system customization on iOS 17.0-18.1 beta 4 without a jailbreak, received an update over this past weekend to version 3.0 with what iOS developer LeminLimez calls a “parity update with Nugget Mobile.”

Version 3.0, first announced in a post shared via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), is a major update with a substantial number of changes. The full change log to this update, per the project’s GitHub page, is as follows:

– Parity update with Nugget Mobile
– Added SpringBoard options
– Added Internal options
– Added AI enabler for unsupported devices in Eligibility Tab
– Added rdar/Status Bar fix
– Added Find My Friends toggle
– Removed Sleep Apnea tweak (it was only added as a joke and did nothing)
– iOS 18.1 beta 5 now shows unsupported text
– Revamped exploit code
– Update license to GPLv3

As you can see for yourself, this update not only gives Nugget some of the same features that Nugget Mobile had, but it adds new features and improves the app over the previous release as well. That said, this is a big update that’s recommended for all existing users.

Nugget, unlike Nugget Mobile, is a computer-based tool that can be used on macOS and Windows. It works while your device is plugged into your computer and uses backups to apply customizations that have the force and effect of jailbreak tweaks, albeit without jailbreaking.

It is worth noting that some of these add-ons modify MobileGestalt, which can potentially result in device instability that can be consequential enough to cause boot loops. That said, this tool is not intended for the faint of heart and should only be used by those who know what they are doing.

As an alternative to Nugget, Nugget Mobile is an on-device customization tool that doesn’t require a computer. It can be sideloaded with tools like AltStore and Sideloadly or perma-signed with TrollStore. Once installed, users can make a lot of the same customizations that they can with Nugget on the computer.

Those looking to give Nugget a try can download it from the developer’s GitHub page.
