Kohima, October 1: A 5-day long Youth Exchange cum Exposure Programme between Nagaland and Meghalaya commenced today.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the programme at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung said this initiative is not just a platform for interaction, but a powerful tool for building bridges of understanding, cultural exchange, and national integration. Nagaland and Meghalaya, two jewels of the Northeast, boast rich traditions, diverse cultures, and unique histories, he said.

From the colourful festivals of the Nagas, such as the Hornbill Festival, to the rich tribal heritage and serene landscapes of Meghalaya, home to the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo people both states represent the incredible cultural mosaic that India is known for, he said.

This programme gives a chance to immerse the youths in each other’s way of life, to learn from the diverse customs, dialects, and traditions, and most importantly, to celebrate the shared identity as Indians, he said.

Maintaining that the youth represent the future of the nation, he said “You are the agents of change, the ones who will shape the course of our country in the years to come.”

By participating in this programme, they are taking the first step towards becoming ambassadors of peace, unity, and development, he said.

“It is up to you, the youth of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and the entire Northeast, to uplift our region to be on par with the rest of the country,” he said.

Director YRS Kethositou Sekhose chaired the programme while Secretary Anthony Ngullie delivered the welcome address.

On the first day, the youths held folk song & dance exchanges and also interacted with school students. In the afternoon a culinary workshop on Naga cuisine was held. Various other activities have been set before the Meghalaya team returns home on October 5.
