Dimapur police notify 50 Km/hr max speed limit on Dimapur-Chumou highway
· Nagaland PageDIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29: Dimapur police has notified maximum speed limit of 50 km/hr from Zion Hospital Junction to Chümoukedima; and from Chathe Bridge (Patkai/ Seithekema) towards Assam/Niuland district with effect from December 1.
Police also fixed maximum speed limit of 30 Km/hr within Dimapur City area.
The speed limits shall be enforced for a period of 1 month from December 1, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
Driving at excessive speeds is a punishable offence and shall be strictly enforced U/S 183 of the MV Act, notified Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie in an order issued today.
The order also advised wearing of seatbelts. Driving/carrying passengers without seatbelt or driving a vehicle with a child below 14 yrs of age without safety belt or child restraint system is an offence, the order said.
Driving without a protective head gear/helmet is a violation of traffic law, it informed.
The order also directed drivers not to use mobile phones while driving and not to drink alcohol and drive.
Asking drivers to park their vehicles responsibly at designated parking spots, the order notified that only parallel parking will be allowed from Purana Bazar to Chümoukedima. Vehicles shall be towed if not parked properly.
Unauthorized retro fitments on vehicles are not permitted, it said and warned that action will be taken against defaulters for installing after-market devices such as tinted glasses (with VLT of front and rear windshield less than 70% and that of side windows being less than 50%); bull bars/crash guards, beacon lights or red/blue LED lights and exhaust pipes/ pressure horns.
The order also notified that all unregistered vehicles plying without a temporary permit issued by the concerned transport authority shall be impounded and defaulters booked.
There will be a zero-tolerance for violation of traffic laws and defaulters shall be strictly penalized, it warned.
