Humanoid robots are no longer a lab demo. In Chinese factories, machines built to move boxes are already on the floor — and their maker says they now match a human worker’s efficiency at the task.

According to the company, the machines run 900 to 1,000 hours straight, and they are already working in European and Chinese auto plants.

Not everyone is convinced the robots are earning their keep yet. One analyst thinks most of them aren’t doing real jobs at all — they’re just harvesting training data.
