The split between Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright is moving into a new, more contentious phase. Rather than wait for the full divorce to be finalized, the former “Vanderpump Rules” star is asking the court to end the marriage itself first and sort out everything else later — a request that puts his desire to move on ahead of the unresolved financial fight.

Jax wants a judge to declare him legally single now, before he and Brittany settle the money, property and support still on the table. In court documents obtained by TMZ, he asked to separate their marital status from the rest of the case, a move known as bifurcation that lets both of them be unmarried while the financial terms are still being worked out.

He says he asked Brittany to agree to it and got no response, and he wants the judge to sign off without more delay. “I desire to be divorced now,” he wrote, adding that he’d like to move on with his life “and to do so as an unmarried person.” His attorney called the marriage “beyond repair” and said there’s no point in the two of them staying legally married.

Jax also claims he showed up to a recent settlement conference ready to negotiate and that Brittany arrived unprepared. Beyond the single-status request, he’s asking the judge to order her to pay more than $9,000 in sanctions for allegedly dragging out the case.

Brittany filed for divorce in August 2024 after five years of marriage. The two share a son, Cruz, and the split has already produced more legal action, with both of them recently obtaining temporary restraining orders against each other.
