Do Not Fall For These 5 Excuses For Giving Up On Your Dreams
· Thought CatalogUpdated 3 hours ago, November 24, 2024
If you want to give up on something because it’s bringing you too much stress or your dreams have changed, then don’t feel guilty about saying goodbye. Your dreams are allowed to change. You’re allowed to want something different today than you waned yesterday. You’re allowed to decide something you thought you needed isn’t actually great for you. But if you’re giving up because of one of the reasons listed below, you should think again:
Because others are doubting you or pressuring you to make a change.
You can’t let other people get in your head. It doesn’t matter if they believe in you. All that matters is that you believe in yourself. Those other people don’t know what’s best for you. They don’t know what you’re capable of achieving. They don’t know how badly you want this. You need to ignore them because you aren’t obligated to fulfill their expectations of you. You should follow the path that feels right for you. Forget what anyone else thinks. Listen to your gut.
Because you’ve already failed once or twice before.
There’s nothing wrong with failure. It’s a stepping stone toward success. Every time you fail, you’re able to learn something new. You’re able to find areas that you need to strengthen and put in the work to do better next time. You shouldn’t give up because you’ve had one or two setbacks. It’s rare for anyone to succeed on their first try. Maybe it was timing and luck, or maybe you still needed to grow, but failing doesn’t have to be the end of the road.
Because you aren’t seeing any progress.
It can take weeks, months, or even years to get better at your passion. You can’t expect to become an expert overnight. You need to put in the hours if you want to see results. You need to stay patient. However, you’re probably growing in ways that you’re unable to see. You’re too close to what you’re doing to realize how much you’ve already grown. Guaranteed, you’re doing better now that you were doing last year. If you keep going, you’ll keep getting better and better. But if you give up, you’ll never know how far you could’ve gone.
Because you’ve lost your motivation.
If you aren’t interested in pursuing a certain path anymore, then it’s perfectly fine to change your mind. But if you’re still passionate about something and are simply lacking motivation, you need to reframe your thoughts. You aren’t always going to be excited to work, just like you won’t always be excited to brush your teeth or do the laundry – but you do it anyway. It’s part of your routine. If you want something bad enough, then you need to push yourself to work even when your motivation is missing.
Because you feel like you should’ve been successful by now.
You can’t pay attention to anyone else’s timeline. You’re never too old to follow your dreams. You don’t have to cross every goal off your bucket list by the time you turn thirty. There’s so much more life left to live. You shouldn’t assume you aren’t going to make it because you’re starting late or have been working for years without seeing success. You can still reach success. You still have a shot. Just because things didn’t work out yesterday doesn’t mean they won’t work out tomorrow.
