Immigration enforcement is reaching further into everyday travel, with agents now detaining people directly at airport gates during what was the agency’s busiest month on record.

Some of the people ICE detained at airport gates in July had valid work permits and no criminal record, according to an immigration attorney.

Federal agents pulled more than 30 travelers at airports in a single month.
